Tektonic: a dancing style for crowded dancefloors

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think this is the newest style of dancing to electronic dance music (house, minimal, techno, electro, whatever) and if you watch the videos in my previous post (Old dance new music) you’re going to notice how today’s packed Clubs have influenced the way we are (not) able to move around: Tektonic seldom involves crazy feet and leg moves (especially when compared to how much you move your top half of the body) and all the action takes place in your own little spot in the dancefloor. I’ve been going out at night only in a few holidays for the last 3 years and I danced in a basic and clumsy kind of Tektonic. I can’t wait for my next holidays.

Blogactionday.org: All blogs, same issue, same day

What would happen if every blog published posts discussing the same issue, on the same day? One issue. One day. Thousands of voices.

I’m so joining this. And if you happen to have a blog, so should you.

The Future of Media (copyright is illegal)

A clip about the future of media according to Italian consulting firm Casaleggio Associati, in which, among many other predictions, they present an upside down world where copyright is what’s illegal, and where your virtual avatar is as important as your terrestrial avatar.

Presentation Zen (things I’ve found in)

Presentation Zen is a long-posts blog packed with tips for PowerPoint presentations in general. While I find it all extremely interesting, the more humorous bits may be more of your liking. Below and inside is a hilarious chart and the Demetri Martin stand-up video where it came from. And a couple other things.

Fold n’Drop Windows

Please Microsoft, integrate this in Longhorn (XP2). A research project to make overlapping windows foldable just as they were papers

First time heard about this I thought it was a clone of Sensiva, a software my Wacom and I couldn’t live without to perform common actions like minimize, maximize, close, open programs, etc. But no, the Fold n’Drop project would be a perfect complement for Sensiva and for a nearer Minority Report hand-gesture-driven computing. Also especially useful for those who don’t know you can drag a file from one window to a hidden one by activating the hidden one in the taskbar, these foldable windows behave exactly like paper, and your finger is the mouse. Do watch the video before you go mad blaspheming against my ineptitude in describing stuff…

MS-DOS

Whenever the word “MS-DOS” is heard, we imagine a black screen with white or green letters. Is that old-fashioned?

Not at all. Not only the trends in interface design support this inverted display style more and more, but it also has more tangible advantages. LED inverted displays (standard mobile phones, car radios, HiFi systems…) generate less annoying light and require less energy. Now even future Windows operative systems will show lighter text over darker background. Although not comfortable for reading long texts, less light is more comfortable and healthy for the eyes. See this picture for more examples:
